So...Tracey is always posting her reviews of shows when she sees them and Kayla did one from this past weekend in Houston...so I decided I should do one too...lol. Here goes.....
Friday afternoon Kayla picked me up a little after 2 with Ann Marie and Diva. We headed down to Hillsboro listening to Legally Blonde and singing the whole way...lol. Got down there and ran out to Kayla's store and then went to Schlotszky's (Sp?) so Ann Marie and Diva could get food. Got back to the house and as I am sure you have seen in Kayla's...the toilet overflowed. Her and Carletta got that cleaned up and I helped a little..but it was pretty much them..lol. We left about 430 and headed to Houston. Got in to Houston at about 8 and checked into the hotel. Got cleaned up and then walked over to the theater to go to Stage Door. People started coming out and then we saw Oz...Diva yelled at him and then jumped on him...it was funny. He hugged all of us and we talked to him for a little bit...Kayla joked with him that he needed to get her a smoothie this time, and he said he'd try to find a place. (Never did though). We told him that he needed to be in the show on Sat and he said he didn't think he would. He left and we went over to talk to Jen and Mimi. While we were talking to Jen, Dustin walked up. Kayla already mentioned the convo about the hotel...which was really funny. She also mentioned about Jen calling Heinz "Ketchup" like the first week of rehearsals. Talked to Kristen for a bit and then we headed to Hard Rock to eat. Loved the host...he was hilarious...kept coming to our table and talking to us...and he turned out to be a Renthead...thus saving Kayla's friendship with Gina. Got back to the hotel a little after midnight and Carletta, Ann Marie, and Diva went down to the bar for a drink. I took a shower and then went to join them since Kayla was on the phone with Gina. Went back up to the room a little after 1 and crashed.
Saturday we got up about 830ish and started getting ready. Got to the theater just before noon. Put our names in for Lotto and then waited til 12:30. There were so few of us that they just sent everyone to the window to get tickets. Show started at 2 and it was great!! We got upstairs to the Lobby and were looking at the "At This Performance" board, and we got our wish...Oz was in the show...soooo happy. We also ended up getting an understudy Maureen and Benny. Here goes my turn at giving my opinion of the cast...lol.
Jed: He is too adorable as Mark...he makes you just want to hug him. Played the character differently than Harley, which I liked, bc then I wasn't trying to compare the two. Cracked me up during LVB. His Halloween was great too...he had emotion...though he didn't pick a fight with the pay phone like Harley did.
Heinz: his voice gave me chills during OSG...though every time he spoke, I kept waiting for Dec's accent...LOL. Like Kayla said, his acting was a little awkward...but he will get better with more time.
Jen: Fantastic as always!!! She always puts so much emotion into Goodbye Love and I love that.
Onyie: Like everyone else...her Lisp got on my nerves. She had a good voice...but it made it hard to even notice that.
Stephanie: This was her first time on as Maureen...she was a little nervous and skipped part of OTM...but she was still funny and if you didn't know the song you wouldnt have even noticed it. Her TMOLM was amazing...she had a very powerful voice. She was so cute though and so short...lol. She made me feel tall and if you know me, then you know thats a feat.
Anwar: He has an amazing voice...i just kept expecting it to be deeper than it was. His acting needs some work...but maybe that will get better with time. He's not a stage actor...so I'm sure it'll just take some time. He hit some amazing notes in the ICY Reprise...just much higher than Warren.
Kristen: The most adorable Angel ever!!!! Absolutely loved his Today 4 U and I'll Cover You. His random switches into his "manly" voice were so cute, as were his "Wheeee!'s" when Collin's picked him up. I just love him!
Devon: His first time EVER as Benny...he'd only even had one rehearsal. He was a great Benny...I agree with Kayla, more agressive than Michael was. Really enjoyed his performance though.
Mimi: Still gave me chills during the SOL solo and again during ICY Reprise. I am so glad she was back so I got to hear her again.
Aswad: Sooo happy he was in the show...I love him on the SOL solo.
Everyone else did a really good job too...not really fond of the girl who was Mark's mom...but loved everyone else.
After the show we went to stage door and got pics and talked to everyone. Went back up to the front of the theater and decided that since we had a little less than an hour til night Lotto...we were just gonna hang out. A guy from Houston that Ann Marie and Diva met at Bass Hall came up to us and he ended up staying with us. Carletta, Diva, and I walked over to Hard Rock to see if Ann Marie's phone was there and to get Kayla a shirt. Got back to the theater about 15 min before Lotto. Put our names in and then started getting nervous b/c there were a lot more people there than there were for matinee. They started calling names and they ended up calling Diva, Kayla, and me in order...so we all got our tickets then went upstairs and ate before the show. Evening show was a lot better bc Stephanie and Devon were a little more comfortable with the parts. I even liked Anwar better bc I was more prepared for his voice this time. After the show we went to stage door to say goodbye. Everyone in the cast was getting sick and it had rained and gotten a lot cooler...so they were all trying to get out of there really quickly. Walked back to the hotel and got the car. Left for home about 11:30. A little before midnight it started raining really badly...so we pulled over and waited for it to slow a little. Ended up getting to Hillsboro a little after 3 and got Carletta's stuff out of the car and Kayla, Me, Ann Marie, and Diva headed back to Arlington. I got home about 4:30 and crashed. Didn't get up til almost 2 pm. And it is now 3:15am and I am gonna crash. It was a great trip and I thank Carletta and Kayla sooo much for my tickets to the shows so that I was able to go...and also for driving! Thanks to Ann Marie for getting the room.
